You described this in such a lovely way, clear and simple, and so relatable. It brings to mind one of my favorite Pema Chodron quotes, something like "You are the sky. Everything else is just the weather." Thanks for sharing these wise teachings! And you may be interested in what I write about, too - we're very much aligned. https://bridgerwellness.substack.com/

I look forward to reading more!

I have to join the others in appreciating the weather metaphore. I have also found out that it trully helps me if I look at the situation from a broader picture, rather than suffering from the tunnel vision when under stress. Reminding oneself of this comparison with weather is simple enough to pull out when necessary in order to get the broader perspective.

Thank you so much for your kidn words. I’m really glad the weather metaphor resonated with you. I love how you put it: zooming out to gain a broader perspective really can make all the difference when we’re caught in stress. It’s something I continue to practice myself, and it’s always encouraging to hear others finding value in the same approach.

There was a video l once watched, at a point it said "When sadness comes, make it tea, stay with it and know it until it leaves", it's enavitable that sadness and anxiety comes but they usually pass, what matters is how we treat them when that moment comes.

Thank you!, the article reasonated with that point.

This is so helpfully set out Sikieng thank you. I’m often reminded of the words of psychologist Dr Karen Treisman when experiencing overwhelming emotions, “you need to name it to tame it”. I like the metaphor of the weather and will use that in my work with young people.

Thank you so much for your thoughtful words. I really appreciate you sharing Dr. Karen Treisman’s quote—“name it to tame it” is such a powerful and accessible way to frame emotional awareness. I’m glad the weather metaphor resonated with you. I’ve been using it with my six-year-old too, telling her that her emotions are like the weather, and she is the sky. I’m not sure if it fully clicks for her yet, but I hope one day it will help her understand and navigate her emotions with more ease. It means a lot to know the metaphor might also support your work with young people. Grateful to be part of this shared learning. Please have a wonderful weekend, Simply Sian :)
